LW on Big Sur

So the latest LW doesn't work on Big Sur. Can anyone confirm this? Thanks.

Re: LW on Big Sur

Looks like there are several things that don't work on Big Sur.  We just received a notice from the University NOT to upgrade as several basic services (e.g., VPN) are not working on Big Sur.

I just put in an order for a Surface Pro 7.

All the best

Marco

Does not work for me, either (64-bit Hobbyist DV, latest version)

Re: LW on Big Sur

can confirm this.
Is there anyone with paid version who can say this is happening?
I’ve seen some messages on the net that some apple service for notarized applications might be down, and somebody even tried to filter that out on firewall with success(meaning the app they were trying to start actually started ok).
But I’m rather new on Mac to fiddle with firewall (or at least find option to stop any app for specific target with built in firewall).

Any help would be nice, or confirmation from LispWork guys (Martin for example) that it should be working/was tested with Big Sur and it is not an issue of lispworks as an application, but probably OS and apple services.

still thinking about my xmass wishes. Maybe Hobbyist edition that works on Big Sur? Waiting for confirmation (and ideally version that will work when I upgrade to Apple silicon later on - not to pay the price twice)

I have a license for Lispworks Professional 64-bit on the Mac. On launch it drops into a breakloop with this message:

Re: LW on Big Sur

Not sure if everybody knows how to deal with problems like that:

If one sees such an error, call in the error REPL

CL-USER 2 : 1 > :bug-form "give the error an descriptive title here"

Then one gets a bunch of output, including fields for more descriptions about the problem, a detailed backtrace, etc.

Add some information to it and send the output to the LispWorks support address, not the mailing list here.

For stuff like that it is likely that there is a patch available... ;-)

Thanks for the reminder, Rainer.

Not yet, it seems, but we may presume that one will be available soon.

Re: LW on Big Sur

Hi,

I confirm that LispWorks 7.1.2 (64-bit) runs "perfectly" on Big Sur, with the Motif-based GUI, so are all command-line LW images. ^_^

P. S. Xquartz 2.7.11 still works on Big Sur. The packages "openmotif" and "imlib2" can be easily installed from Homebrew. I didn't try the GTK-based GUI (but I guess it will also work), because LW only supports the X11-based GTK 2.x installed through Macports.

Regards,

Chun Tian

Re: LW on Big Sur

Yes, this is a known problem with LispWorks on Big Sur.

For the Hobbyist/HobbyistDV/Professional/Enterprise Edition users, we have
just uploaded a fix for it here:

http://www.lispworks.com/downloads/patch-selection.html#lw71bigsur

We will update that page if we find any other problems and make a new build of
the LispWorks Personal Edition.

Re: LW on Big Sur

I downloaded and applied it in Lispworks Professional 64-bit on macOS Big Sur. It seems to work perfectly after applying the patch.
