gp:draw-glyph

Hi,

Yesterday I stumbled across the function gp:draw-glyphs and its friends. But the only mention of them is in the release notes for LW 7.1 (under 15.7 ”New graphics ports features”), where their use is not recommended. Is there any information anywhere as to what these functions do, how to use them, and why they exist?
