Localizing CAPI applications

Folks,

Does anyone have a strategy for localizing CAPI applications?

I want the app to be available in English and Chinese, for example.

Is it just a matter of looking up resources while setting up the widget tree?

Re: Localizing CAPI applications

Hi Joel
We use cl-i18n (http://quickdocs.org/cl-i18n/) to enable our program in English, Brazilian Portuguese and Swedish (the main three languages of the world :-). I don’t know if Chinese has special requirements.
The definitions we use in the code are generic terms like ”menu-app” etc, which are translated in ”po” files:

...
msgid "menu-app"
msgstr "ScoreCloud"

msgid "menu-app-about"
msgstr "About ScoreCloud"
...

The ”po” files are translated to ”mo" format which we load in the program like this:

(cl-i18n:load-language "en.mo")

This is what the code can look like where the translations will be applied:

(:menus
   (application-menu #!"menu-app"
                     ((:component
                       ((#!"menu-app-about"
                           :callback 'show-about-box
…

We also have help in html format but that’s another thing…
Hope this helped!
Sven

Re: Localizing CAPI applications

I think LispWorks IDE itself should consider supporting localization (for some typical locales) in the future, to show that CAPI indeed supports them naturally (and provides some hints in CAPI user manual.)
