LW on Macintosh

I have a process that I need to run weekly that currently takes me 20 hours to run. It would be satisfactory if the process ran in < 12 hours so that I could run it overnight.

I am using LW 7.1.0 64 bit on an old MacBook with specs:
macOSMojave 10.14.6
MacBook Pro 10,1
Retina, 15 inch, Early version 2013
Processor: 2.7 GHz Intel Core i7
number or processors 1, number of cores 4
Memory 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB
L3 Cache: 6 MB
Hyper-Threading Technology: Enabled
Boot ROM Version: 257.0.0.0.0
SMC Version (system): 2.3f36

I am contemplating a new MacBook vs a Linux (Del 5740) laptop, but I don't really know if either of these options will solve the problem.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Sheldon

Re: LW on Macintosh

There are rumors of a new laptop from Apple coming on Tuesday.

The single core speed for Intel mobile CPUs is only slowly rising.

The question would be, how much CPU speed can be sustained over a long period of time.
With 2.4Ghz normal speed and upto 5 Ghz Turbo ?

For an idea how the CPU speeds compare, see here:

https://browser.geekbench.com/mac-benchmarks/

Try to identify your machine and compare it to a current model.
Hoping that running for several hours does not cause thermal problems...

Generally you can expect the same speed-up for LispWorks...

Looks like the best current Macbook Pro has 1.5 the single core CPU speed.

Then see also the multicore-speeds, if that is useful for you.

There are also numbers for other computer vendors on the site.

Regards,

Rainer
