Image from screen

Is there  a method of getting a gp:image from a screen? I haven't been 
able to find one yet.

Bottom line: I'm trying to create an image from an arbitrary pane that 
isn't an graphics-port. I figured using the screen and capturing the 
section with the pane would be the next route to go for, but so far I've 
been pretty unsuccessful at making this happen.

Anyone done something similar? I'm on OS X, but I prefer something 
cross-platform if possible.
