OpenMotif-versions

I see from the release notes that the motif version of LW for mac
requires OpenMotif 2.3, whereas the linux version requires 2.2.*

Newer Ubuntu Desktop versions come with 2.3. Is it also possible to
run the linux version with OpenMotif 2.3? If yes, what's the
kosher way to change the motif-related variables to admit the
new version?
