pinboard layout vs. gp transforms

Is it possible to apply gp: transforms (e.g. scaling) to pinboard layouts and 
all of the pinboard objects contained on a specific pinboard layout?  

I want to display a representation of a page containing text (fonts) and 
images and graphics - at different zoom levels.

Can I use capi:pinboard layouts and capi:drawn-pinboard-objects for this, or 
do I need to drop into gp: to accomplish this?

I've played with changing the gp:graphics-port-transform of the pinboard 
layout and gp:set-graphics-port-coordinates on the pinboard layout, but thus 
far I'm getting ugly results...
