Text attributes in a text editor?

Hi,

I seem to unable to penetrate the LW documentation today... Can anybody 
point me to the documentation that discusses assigning character 
attributes (e.g. colour, like the syntax colouring in the development 
environment) to parts of the text in an editor. Or an example.
