editor and character encodings

Is there any support to display multi-byte character sets in the 
editor? For example, I used

(setf (editor:variable-value "Input Format Default" :global nil) 
:euc-jp)

and then opened a file with euc-jp character encoding. The non-ascii 
characters display as "?" or some other extended character in a few 
cases. If I copy the text and paste it into Mail.app I get what appears 
to be the correct character rendering (assuming I could actually read 
it). I get the same results with a utf-8 file.

LWM 4.3.7 on OS X 10.3.4
